Eating to Stay Lean
How I stay lean year-round ?
It isn't about willpower or magic meals. It's the system underneath.
Staying lean requires tracking and commitment.
1. Set a clear daily calorie target
I sit at around 2,800 calories a day to maintain. I'm not bulking, I'm not cutting hard, I just want to stay athletic and lean. If you don't know your number, you're guessing every meal. I have build up a nutrition section in my app to help people calculate their daily calorie intake considering their body goals and personnal metrics.
2. Build a small library of meals you actually like
I rotate between two or three different days of food. Once your favourite meals are logged in a tracker, sticking to your calorie target stops being a daily decision and starts being a habit.
3. Plan for your sweet tooth before it kicks in
Mine shows up every evening. Instead of pretending it doesn't exist and then binging at 10pm, I plan for it. A bit of dark chocolate, a couple of dates, some coconut water, that sort of thing. Find the natural foods that kill your craving and keep them in the cupboard.
4. Track most days, relax on the weekend
I'm strict Monday to Friday and a bit more flexible on the weekend. After enough years of tracking, you can eyeball things pretty well, but only if you've done the work first.
5. Pick the carb level that suits your body
Some people thrive on high carb, others feel better lower carb. I personally feel sluggish without carbs, so I keep them in. There's no right answer, just experiment until you find your version.
6. Keep your supplement stack simple
A handful of well-chosen products will do more for you than a cabinet full of fancy bottles. I take protein, creatine, fish oils, and electrolytes when I've sweated a lot. All mine are from Bionic. Use MIKE10 if you want to grab them with 10% off.
